Network of Self-Managed Aliniha Women's Associations in Kayes (Mali)

Objectives

Formally inaugurated on July 14 2014, Jeduman's overall goal is to make women players in economic, social, cultural and environmental development in order to improve their quality of life. And more precisely to act as a framework to organise, debate and educate women in the resolution of their specific problems.

Activities

The creation of the inter-AAA follows a fundamental mechanism that already connected the Kayes AAAs. Each AAA transfers the sum of CFA 10 000 into a common savings fund or tontine. This is then made available to one or the other member so as to set up an activity.

Overseen by JEDUMAN, the transfer of competences between AAAs is also on the agenda. For example, the kindergarten of Khasso’s AAA met with such success that several other AAAs noted that they would like to set up one of their own. So as to rationalise and optimise the work and resources, the idea of opening new kindergartens as extensions or secondary facilities of Khasso was put forward. So the network effect consisted on the one hand of benefitting from the expertise Khasso’s AAA, but more importantly to benefit from the very positive reputation that the team had managed to create.

The inter-AAA can encourage the activities requested by a majority of associations and that meet the daily needs of the women. At the same time, it supports initiatives that are relatively simple to implement and that do not require too much investment (materiel, equipment, buildings), so as not to hurt the profitability of the activity from the outset. Lastly, from a financial angle, JEDUMAN’s accountancy is handled by the microfinance body that already helps the AAA, Benso Jamanu.

Jeduman became formal member of Aliniha International during the General Assembly held in February 2015 in Gaoua (Burkina Faso).
